Forcing Bulbs
A lovely way to bring spring to your home early.
I have an area in the basement that I use as a winter growing room to force bulbs, sprout early veggies and overwinter my geraniums and fuschias.
Paper whites are easy to force, but their smell can be overpowering!
Here is an old wine bottle holder from France that I brought back. It is the perfect size for the cylindrical vases I get at Goodwill for 99 cents.
I put clear marbles in the vase and place the paperwhite bulb on top. There are very pretty to watch grow, but must be thrown away after blooming. Forced paper whites will never bloom again in the garden if planted. They are just too worn out.
